2010-11 Grants

Middle School Greenhouse Project
This grant will assist in the construction of a greenhouse for a middle school. The greenhouse will serve as a hands-on learning environment for science classes and provide year-round connections to the middle schools’ wellness initiative.
Creating a Healthy Learning Environment
This will support the creation of a healthy academic climate for Olentangy’s Alternative Education Program.
I See the Rhythm
A world drum package will be purchased for an elementary school to assist kindergarteners through 5th graders participating in general music learn more about world music, rhythms and cultures.
Bringing the World to the World Language Classroom
This grant will fund the purchase of a SmartBoard for World Language classrooms at the high school level. With this technology, students will be able to obtain a better grasp of grammatical and vocabulary concepts.
Project FLIP
FLIP video cameras will be purchased be help support the technology department at the building for the overflow middle school students.
Senteos to Guide Instruction in Math
Funds for this project will support the purchase of a student response system for 4th and 5th grade students. The student response system will give the teachers instant feedback to assess the understanding of various math concepts.
Engaging Students with Enlarged Content using ELMO Document Cameras
A document camera will be purchased for use by a 6th grade team to enhance the learning process by having easy visual access to work samples, reading passages, science experiments and 3D shapes and images.
Raising the Bar for Calculus
This grant will purchase a SmartBoard and student response system for use in high school AP Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus and Discrete Math classes.
Take Care Club
A service club will be initiated at an elementary school to increase student awareness about helping those in need.
Science Equipment
This grant will help fund the purchase of equipment for a high school Science Department that will assist the students and staff with various experiments.
SmartBoard for World Languages
A SmartBoard will be purchased for use in a 7th and 8th grade foreign language classroom. This will enable the teacher to clearly articulate quality learning targets for the students.
Enhancing Instruction with ELMO
This grant will fund the purchase of a document camera and visual presenter for use at the 4th and 5th grade elementary level.
TouchSmart Desktop in the Multiple Disabilities Classroom
A TouchSmart Desktop will be purchased for use by elementary students with various learning disabilities.
ELMO Document Camera for Reading and Writing Achievement
This ELMO camera and projector will allow the teacher to provide instant feedback for the students in the high school English classroom. It will enable students to review their work instantly, help them with critical reading skills and gain understanding in the editing process.

2009-10 Grants

Genetics Technology for Biology
Genetics technology equipment will be purchased for use by high school students in Biology, Honors Biology and AP Biology classes.
Maximize Student Achievement with I-Pod Shuffles
Purchase of I-Pod Shuffles for second grade students to use to help improve their word recognition, fluency, and phonemic awareness.
Document Camera to Assist with Formative Assessment
This Smart Camera will be used in high school English classes to help the students achieve the learning targets and provide them with immediate feedback on their work.
Improving Math Achievement
This grant will purchase a SmartBoard and student response system for use in high school pre-calculus, honors pre-calculus and geometry.
Literacy Coaching in Action
Funds from grant will be used to purchase flip cameras for all elementary literacy support staff. Literacy support staff will film classroom teachers and offer feedback to improve teaching methods.
Lab Data Collection Devices
A class set of Vernier LabQuests equipment will be purchased for use in high school physical science, biology and chemistry classes. This equipment will give students a greater opportunity for high quality data collection.
Book Talks for Middle School Students
Purchase of books to aid in the process of helping gifted teachers meet the needs of the gifted students in all middle schools.
Integrated Problem Solving for High School Math Students
SmartBoard will be purchased for Algebra II and Pre-Calculus classes.
Chess, Anyone?
A chess club will be initiated at an elementary school for 4th and 5th grader students.
Technology for Broadcast Journalism
The purchase of video equipment to help high school broadcast journalism students perfect their skills.

OEF Grants 2006-07

  • Funded four $2,000 college scholarships

Venier Measuring Devices:
Measuring devices for physical science, chemistry and physics class use at high school level. 400 Students affected.
3D Computer Aided Drafting with Solid Works:
Software to better serve the students studying drafting and pre-engineering at high school level. 150-200 students affected.
Library & Computer Lab Smartboards:
Upgrading technology for easier viewing in computer lab and utilizing smaller board in Library area of middle school. Approximately 900 students affected.
WEB (Where Everyone Belongs):
A program to ease student transition into middle school through year long programming. 360 students impacted at 6th grade level.
Speech Team:
High school students given the opportunity to compete in interscholastic debates and oratory competitions through National Forensic League. Voluntary program at the high school level.
After-School Mentoring Program:
Additional literary assistance is provided to middle school and elementary school children by high school students on a weekly basis. More than 300 students, K-12 will be affected.
Improving Science Achievement with SmartBoards:
Utilizing SmartBoard technology will increase critical learning skills in science area for middle school program. 375 students will be affected.

Braves Kickoff Mentors:
purchased materials and supplies for this year long mentoring program using juniors and seniors as mentors, guiding freshman at orientation and throughout the school at Olentangy high school.
CBLs for Chemistry:
purchased hand held digital Calculator Based Labs for research and tracking data at Liberty High School.
Ohio Reads:
purchased book for high school students to use when partnering with elementary aged students in tutoring and reading sessions.
Big Brother/Big Sister After School Program:
purchased material and supplies for high school students to partner with middle school age students to develop relationships to support academic, social and emotional issues — supported in part by BB/BS organization.
Residency with Judy Piazza:
funded week long residency in two elementary schools with nationally recognized musician to offer multi-cultural music education and therapy to all students and teachers.
Recreational Reading Initiative:
purchased books and materials designed to engage Olentangy High School students to read for pleasure.
Student Support Teen Literacy:
purchased books and material designed to engage Liberty High School students to enjoy recreational reading.
Art Therapy:
purchased materials for guidance program to offer art therapy as a method of expression during counseling sessions.
Building a Learning Community:
funded materials to assist development of learning environment in school for all new students in the district.

funded a year long course at Liberty High School to assist students in successful methods of conflict management and problem solving.
Olentangy Community Development Centers:
purchased materials and equipment for two neighborhood centers to provide academic assistance to children.
T.R.A.I.T. Books:
provided funds for materials for students at Tyler Run Elementary to create individualized theme books promoting teamwork, responsibility, acceptance, involving others and treating others the way you would like to be treated.
Second Annual Parent Fair:
funded nationally recognized speaker for district wide Parent to Parent course.
Craft Lessons in 4th Grade Writing:
funded resource materials to Alum Creek Elementary teachers to help develop good writing skills for their students.
Japanese Taiko Drum Making:
funded nationally renowned Japanese drummer, Eric Paton, to visit Tyler Run Elementary to help students learn about Japanese history and culture through making and exhibiting Taiko drums.

This grant will assist in freshman transitioning into high school.

This project will provide classroom teachers (k-5) with instructions, materials and on-going support to improve teaching of phonics and fluency skills.
Mentor Texts: Shanahan Middle School.
This grant will support reading comprehension strategies for teachers (6-8 grade).
OHIO Reads: OHS, OLHS & Alum Creek, Indian Springs, Tyler Run and Oak Creek Elementary School through Service Clubs at high schools.
This grant helps fund this collaboration to promote reading between high school students and younger students.
Performance-Based Assessment in Math; Walnut Creek Elementary: Wyandot Run Elementary.
This grant provides hands-on standards based assessment materials that correlate with everyday math.

This project uses Legos to improve geometric shape understanding and development with descriptive writing for each creation.

This project uses the Smart Board technology for various curriculum strategies for first grade.
Engaged Learning : Liberty Middle School.
This grant funds Smart Technology for use in middle school curriculum.

This funds Smart Board technology for physics and chemistry classes at LHS.
Teaching Math through Children’s Literature: Walnut Creek Elementary.
This project funds a series of literature with various mathematic concepts, including resource materials for teachers, kindergarten through fifth grade.
Warrior News: Olentangy Liberty Middle School.
This project funds taping technology and microphones for the LMS News class for 8th grade.

purchased writing workshop books for 4th grade writing workshop at Walnut Creek Elementary.
Middle Weekly News:
purchased video equipment for Liberty Middle School 8th grade Weekly News Program.
Music Therapy Inclusion:
funded music therapist to provide therapy for all special needs and typically developing children.
Service Learning & Service Club:
purchased supplies and materials for service club activities such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Ohio Reads etc.
Second Grade Productions:
purchased digital camera and supplies for year long video educational journal starring 2nd graders and centered on topics featured in curriculum.
Third Annual Parent Fair:
funded keynote speaker for district wide Parent Fair.

Ohio Heroes:
funded assemblies depicting personal portrayals of historical figures to 4th graders at Wyandot Run and Tyler Run Elementary Schools.
